FAQ
How can attending the modules benefit me?
The training that this programme offers will complement their scientific research skills learned as part of undertaking their specific research projects. Participants in these modules may have primary project activities in Food Business, Food Engineering, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Nutrition and other disciplinary areas. Modules in the FGDP will allow students to become trained in areas outside of their main subject and give them an appreciation of activities and developments in the wider Agri Food sector. Some significant outcomes of this will be development of inter-disciplinary attitudes in students, building of networks of researchers and strengthening of inter-institutional links.
Who can attend the modules?
Places will be allocated first to Postgraduate students and research staff funded under the Food Institution Research Measure (FIRM) in universities and research institutions in Ireland. In the event that there are unfilled places at a module, interested researchers who are not FIRM funded will be considered.
How much do the modules cost?
The programme covers the cost of the module, accommodation and meals. The students will be expected to cover the cost of travel out of their own funds.
How frequently are the modules held?
About 6 modules are held a year. The module section gives more information on the modules that have been held and the ones that are to be held in the future.
Where are the modules held?
The modules are held in locations based on where the majority of lecturers are based. They are usually based in UCD or UCC but have also been held in Teagasc Moorepark, Dublin City University and Trinity College, Dublin.
